How To Install the Waterproof RJ45 Connector on a Hikvision or HiLook IP Camera

IP CCTV cameras like those from Hikvision and HiLook are often supplied with a waterproof RJ45 connector cover assembly. It is important to correctly install the connector cover to prevent potential damage to the camera that can be caused by corroded or shorted pins in the RJ45 socket.
RJ45 Waterproof Connector Parts
- A - Rubber washer
- B - Connector cover body
- C - Compression ring
- D - Connector cover lock ring
Installation
1. Place the rubber washer (A) over the female RJ45 socket that is attached to the camera. This is important to ensure the assembled connector is waterproof and to prevent the connector corroding and shorting which can damage the camera.
2. Pass the unterminated cable through parts B, C and D in the order shown below. If the cable is already terminated, check if the compression ring (C) has a split which will allow it to be installed around the cable. The terminated cable should still pass through the connector lock ring and body.
3. Insert the RJ45 plug into the RJ45 socket ensuring it clicks into place.
Check the 8 gold pins at the end of the RJ45 plug are all fully crimped down into the plug. Inserting a plug with raised pins will damage the female RJ45 socket.
4. Push and twist the connector cover body (B) onto the female RJ45 socket so that it locks in place
5. Tighten the lock ring (D) so that the rubber compression ring (C) tightens onto the cable
Removal
Remove in the reverse order to installation, ensuring that the lock ring (D) is loosened before attempting to remove the connector cover body (B). Failure to loosen the lock ring before removal will result in damage to the RJ45 socket of the camera.
