We would recommend using an inline coupler at either end of the SWA cable as SWA network cable is difficult to terminate using plugs or faceplates.

Join the SWA to a standard Cat 5e or 6 cable using an inline coupler as shown in the example below.

Different brands of couplers are wired in different ways so it is important to follow the instructions provided with the coupler. You can often find that the coupler has labelling on it's base to show where each core goes. The coupler available from Connectec here is wired as follows

I'm looking to make a similar connection from an SWA CAT 6 cable - do I need to earth the SWA when I make a glanded connection & if so, how? Given there won't be an earth to connect to in the box. I will not be running the cable next to electrical cables - Adam 7 months

There is no need to earth the armour on a data cable as there is little to no voltage present on the cable - 7 months

Would it be best to terminate an SWA cable into an inline coupler & then from there to an RJ45 socket, or to strip back a bigger length of the SWA cable, making it off into a gland on the jn box, and then just running the internal cable to the socket? - Adam 2 months
